CLUB HISTORY
The club was formed in 1962, the first offshoot of the parent club "The Beagle Club". The Beagle Club was established in 1890 but was mainly a southern based club (hence our name Northern & Midland).
The inaugural meeting of the N&MCBC took place at Leeds Championship Show on May 26th 1962. Heather Priestley (Pinewood) took on the office of Hon. Secretary until 1971 when she was succeeded by Mrs June Middleton (Gaytail). Mrs Brenda Haslam of the Rossgay Beagles took over office in 1983, until Mr David Nicholson became secretary in 1996. David was succeeded in 2001 by Marina Walker (Barughgreen). The first show run by the society took place on July 27th 1963 at the Meanwood Working Mens Club, Leeds. The judge was Mr Ray Newton of Staffordshire, and 58 Beagles made an entry of 142. The Best in Show & Best Puppy in Show winner was Joy Foster`s BROADWEIR PINEWOOD CHEERFUL, and Best Opposite Sex - Glenda Young`s SOUTHCOURT SIREN.
Our first championship Show was held on October 30th 1965, at the Brodsworth Miners Welfare Hall, Woodlands, Doncaster. Mr Joe Mashford was the judge and his entry was 104 Beagles making 189 entries. Dog CC winner was Mr & Mrs Snutch`s - MARTINSHAW MERCURY, Bitch CC winner was the well known CH. DERAWUDA BASHFUL owned and bred by Fred Watson of Beverley. Best Puppy was Margaret & Alec Watson`s - RAMLACIM MARCUS WATCLIFFE. Interesting note:- Between them the Appleton`s had entered 7 champions in the open dog class, all of which were absent.
This club is run by Beagle people for Beagle people. We hold various functions throughout the year, and would love to hear from any BEAGLERS who share our passion for the breed. We presently have members from all over the world, but would love to hear from anyone new who wants to join our "Friendly Club" If you are interested in joining us please mail our Secretary for more details.
